A rally in San Mateo will call for pedestrian safety after a father and his two children were hit by a truck. Residents are calling for fixes to an intersection they say is dangerous because many vehicles speed through it. The intersection, at North Delaware and State streets near San Mateo Hi gh School, is where on March 28 a father, his 16-year-old daughter and his 8-year-old son were struck by a truck. A family member said they looked both ways and that the intersection was clear. According to a witness, a truck came in quickly and hit them. The father was and may still be in the intensive care unit. He requires multiple surgeries and, according to a GoFundMe page, faces a long recovery. The son suffered fractures on both sides of his skull. The daughter was also taken to a hospital, but her condition is unknown. Police told NBC Bay Area the investigation is ongoing and have ruled out alcohol and drugs. A neighbor told NBC Bay Area the intersection has been dangerous for years and recalled a 14-year-old girl who was hit at the same spot. More than 1,100 letters have already been submitted through an online petition demanding the city fix the intersection with better lighting and measures to slow drivers. NBC Bay Area’s Bob Redell has more in the video above. ...read more read less
