It’s a scam. “We are encouraging folks to completely ignore/delete the text. Do not scan any QR codes, engage, or p rovide any personal or payment information,” said Kelsey Cruz, public information officer for the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office. The text message is sent to a victim and says that the recipient has not paid an outstanding traffic violation and that the matter is now under court enforcement. The scam encourages immediate action, noting a number of penalties for failing to respond. A QR code is also included in the text message.
