Marcus’ 5 a.m. Saturday forecast
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Central Indiana will see another round of active weather today as a cold front pushes through the state, bringing showers and thunderstorms followed by a significant cool-down.
Storms will move in this morning, with widespread rain ex
pected this afternoon.
The line of showers and thunderstorms is expected to move into the area during the early to mid-morning hours and will continue eastward through the day. Rain chances will likely be scattered during the morning and become more widespread during the afternoon hours.
A few storms during the afternoon and evening hours could be on the stronger side, with the primary threat being damaging wind gusts. Much of the state is under a Level 1 out of 5 risk for severe storms today.
Areas could pick up around a quarter to a half inch of rainfall, but with some heavy downpours possible, localized totals could exceed one inch through the day.
Temperatures fall behind the front
Temperatures will remain relatively warm early Saturday, but will begin to drop quickly as the cold front moves through by the afternoon. Expect high temperatures near lunchtime around 70°, falling rapidly into the upper 60s by late afternoon.
Quiet and cooler pattern returns Easter Sunday
By Sunday, high pressure will build into the area, bringing drier conditions, lighter winds, and decreasing cloud cover. Temperatures will be sharply cooler compared to the last few days. Look for highs in the low to mid-50s, which is about 5 to 10 degrees below average for early April.
Frost and freeze risk early next week
Overnight lows from Monday night through Wednesday morning are expected to dip into the low to mid-30s, with many locations potentially falling below freezing. This could pose a risk of damage to early-season vegetation if precautions are not taken to protect plants from the cold.
Seven-day forecast
The cooldown will be brief. Temperatures will remain in the 50s for Monday and Tuesday. Highs will bounce back to the mid-60s (above average) by Wednesday, with 70s returning for Thursday and Friday. Chances for showers and thunderstorms will return to end the work week.
