Southeast Wisconsin weather: Morning Freezing Rain; Evening Severe Storms
Apr 02, 2026
Storm Team 4 is monitoring a dynamic area of low-pressure that tracks through Wisconsin today. Scattered showers have been ongoing during the overnight hours. With temperatures near below-freezing, freezing rain may create slic
k/slippery conditions on bridges overpasses. This is most likely far North of I-94. Any ice accumulation will melt away as temperatures steadily increase throughout the morning.Showers continue throughout the morning. The latest hi-res computer guidance suggests that there may be a lull in rain during the early afternoon. A few isolated storms cannot be ruled out. As the warm air moves into southern Wisconsin, storms may turn strong to severe. Hail, gusty winds, and an isolated tornado are possible in the strongest storms. An Enhanced (Level 3) risk of severe weather has been posted for much of southern Wisconsin near the State Line, northern Illinois, and portions of Iowa. A Slight risk (Level 2) is in place for the rest of SE Wisconsin.WATCH: Is there a chance of severe weather today? Morning Freezing Rain; Evening Severe StormsOne final wave of storms will arrive along an advancing cold front. These storms would also be capable of all types of severe weather.Today's severe weather chance hinges on an adequate break during the late morning and early afternoon. This would allow for further destabilization of the atmosphere. Also, if the warm front is unable to move far enough North, severe weather chances would be far lower. Storm Team 4 meteorologists will continue to monitor these trends throughout the day. After the last storms exit, overnight lows fall into the lower 40s.Friday remains largely dry. Highs return to the upper 40s lower 50s. An easterly wind off Lake Michigan will keep highs less mild.Another round of showers/storms is likely late Friday night into Saturday. We'll be watching for any embedded hail within the initial storms Friday night. Otherwise, scattered rain is likely into Saturday afternoon. Drier conditions take hold later in the day through Easter Sunday. Please stay with TMJ4 and Storm Team 4 for the latest updates.
