Community mourns death of teen stabbed in Milpitas

Family and friends organized a memorial for the 17-year-old who was stabbed to death by another teen in Milpitas just blocks away from Milpitas High School.
Jarred Cavan, 17, was stabbed to death Tuesday afternoon after police said he was attacked by a group of teens.
Friends said Cavan had pi
cked up his brother at Milpitas High on Tuesday afternoon. A short time later, police said he was attacked in the nearby neighborhood by several people. Police said the 17-year-old suspect was still at the scene when they arrived.
“He was pointed out and he waited for additional officers to arrive on scene,” Itzel Padilla with Milpitas police said.
Investigators said Canva’s 16-year-old girlfriend was with him and tried to intervene. suffering minor injuries. His uncle, Alberto Balili, said Cavan was stabbed eight times.
He also said he will miss the loving teen.
“He’s a very kind person, very friendly,” Balili said.
The tragedy shocked the community. He was a senior at Calaveras Hills High School, headed to college. His aunt says he loved being with family.
“He was a really really good kid he was ready to graduate in june and his dad had just bought him a car when the tragedy happened,” the victim’s aunt, Joanna Cavan, said.
During the growing memorial, many were leaving candles and flowers, a reflection of how loved the teen was.
While a suspect is in custody, police say they are still investigating a motive.
