CAROLINE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The family and high school of 18-year-old Jayden McComber is remembering his "beautiful soul." The Caroline County Sheriff's Office found his body in a pond on Tuesday, March 31, after he went missing less than a week earlier.

His family said he had been missing since Wednesday, March 25, reported it on March 27, and by March 31 officials had found his body.
On GoFundMe, McComber's family wrote “Jayden was so deeply loved. He had the biggest heart and made sure the people around him knew it. He never missed a chance to say 'I love you,' and those words mean everything to us now...No words can truly describe the pain we are feeling. The kind of heartbreak that takes your breath away. The kind that doesn’t feel real."
Hopewell City Public Schools said McComber was a "beloved swim team member," and that they’re grateful for the time they had to serve his “beautiful soul.”

Grief counselors will be available in the Hopewell High School Library from 10 a.m. to noon on Thursday, April 2, and when students get back from spring break the week of April 11.
Deputies are investigating his death as a homicide and believe it's connected to a separate "deeply disturbing" homicide.
The Caroline County Sheriff's Office said they’ve been working around the clock to identify the person in the separate homicide. We now know that person is a female. She was found after someone reported what they believed was a body in a wooded area on their property off Bagby Road.
As for McComber, officials told 8News that based on evidence they found investigating the female’s homicide, they were led to searching Byrds Millpond on Byrds Mill Road about five miles from where the female was found via roadway.

“After the discovery of the first body, which wasn’t too far away, we began working with Jayden’s family immediately then and we’ve worked with them from then until now," said Major Travis Nutter. “Evidence gathered during the investigation leads up to believe these two incidents are likely connected with each other.”
But officials aren’t yet sharing what specific evidence led them to believe there’s a connection or to the pond.
“We take this kind of thing very seriously, and we take it personally," Major Hunter said.
Officials said McComber's body is with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Richmond and that it typically takes about a month for an official cause of death. The sheriff's office would not disclose the condition of McComber's body.
As for the female victim, she's been challenging for experts to identify, and said that whoever did this went through “extensive effort” to hide her identity.
As for the suspect or suspects, Major Nutter is confident the investigators will give the victims' families justice.
“Anytime that there’s someone among us in society that’s capable of committing these types of crimes, I would consider that a danger to society," Major Nutter said. "What I will say is that through our investigative efforts and evidence that has been obtained so far, we do not think that these were random acts of violence. We do believe that all of these people were familiar and knew each other."
