North Texas leaders expect tens of thousands of fans from Sweden and Czechia in just a few weeks. Those national teams have won their playoff rounds, which means they’ll be setting up base camps here; Sweden to Frisco’s Toyota Stadium and Czechia to Mansfield Stadium. “Those cultures, it’s gonna be really unique,” said Dan Hunt, FC Dallas president, in a virtual press conference on Wednesday morning. Hunt said now, he and other stadium leaders start mapping out the game plan with the teams. “They’ll work directly with us for what they need at the stadium. Everything from training times to a weight facility,” he explained. Hunt said he thinks both teams are required to have a public practice at some point, which North Texas leaders will also help coordinate. He said he expects other opportunities for the public to meet players. “I can’t speak to, I think, what their interactions will be, but I’m assuming that they will probably be out in the community a little bit to break up the day-to-day routine.,” Hunt said. Scott Norton, general manager of the stadium for Rev Entertainment, said the ball is already rolling for them, too. “We’re looking at how we can welcome the team with some branding or signage or do something culturally relevant to have them when they get here feel like it’s their home,” he said. Their stadium, though, is still full of construction crews. “The majority of the stadium is done, the bones of the stadium, if you will. The field is in. They’re focusing on the north building, which is all the locker rooms and team spaces and preparation for World Cup team base camp,” Norton said. He said as long as those areas are done, they will be ready for Czechia. “It was always contemplated that we would focus on the field and the team spaces, which is really the focus of FIFA and the teams. They don’t care if we don’t have all the seats in or, you know, a few screws need to be put in here and there,” he said. Norton said he’s confident they’ll meet that goal. “They’ve got… over 150 guys on the site each day. So, everyday you go in and it’s amazing how fast stuff goes in and all timed and choreographed. So, yeah, we’re very confident that we’ll be all set,” he said. He said crews are working six days a week and will work more if need be to make sure everything is ready. ...read more read less
