A mom in Fort Worth is bragging about her son and something good that happened to him last weekend. Brayden Rischer is a senior at the Young Men’s Leadership Academy in the Fort Worth ISD. He’s already been accepted to several universities, but he aspires to play basketball for the United Sta tes Naval Academy and he’s holding out hope he gets that offer. In the meantime, he’s getting praise for his artwork. Brayden was among 100 students across Texas whose original artwork was on display at the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum in Austin. Brayden’s art titled “systemic struggle” came from an assignment about cross cultures from YMLA art teacher Melissa Schulman. His mom, Katrina Rischer-Carpenter, says Brayden took the picture himself, dressed in clothes he owned and some he thrifted. Brayden told his school newspaper that he loves adversity and that struggle makes the win more meaningful. The annual exhibit by the Texas Art Education Association celebrated Youth Art Month by showcasing promising students across the state.The artwork came from students in pre-k through 12th grades, with over 80 school districts across the state represented.
