San Diego County health officials Monday announced that Avenida Lunar beach in Coronado is open, after water quality samples met state standards. Closures remain in place for the Tijuana Slough, Imperial Beach, Silver Strand and North Beach in Coronado, until sampling confirms the areas are safe, according to the Department of Environmental Health and Quality “The public is advised to avoid water contact as the water is impacted by sewage and may cause illness,” according to DEHQ. The county issued advisories for Avenida de la Playa, Campland, La Jolla Children’s Pool, North Cove Vacation Isle, San Luis Rey River and Tidelands Park. “Beach goers are advised that bacteria levels have exceeded state health standards and may cause illness,” officials said.
