More than 8 million protesters across the United States on Saturday expressed care for neighbors and condemnation of the Trump administration’s policies during the third national No Kings rally, according to organizers. Over 3,300 events took place, including several throughout Maryland. A protest in Hagerstown took place a few miles northeast of a Williamsport warehouse that Immigration and Customs Enforcement wants to turn into an immigrant detention center. Organizers estimated that 2,500 to 3,000 people turned out for the Hagerstown protest, Maryland Matters reported. Another 4,000 demonstrators protested at a rally in Columbia where U.S. Rep. Sarah Elfreth (D-Maryland) spoke. At a No Kings event in Aberdeen, U.S. Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-Maryland) spoke to a crowd of more than 800 people, according to organizers. Baltimore saw an estimated 1,000 to 1,500 protesters gather in the city’s downtown area, reported The Greyhound, the student newspaper at Loyola University Maryland. Among the many issues motivating protesters to the streets were the Trump administration’s detention, deportation, mistreatment, and separation of immigrant families; President Donald Trump’s ordered attacks on Iran that kicked off a war with the Middle Eastern country without congressional approval; redactions of mentions of Trump in the Epstein Files while naming victims of human trafficking; and more.
