California's Great America opens 50th season as park's future is unclear

California’s Great America in Santa Clara opened its 50th season Saturday, welcoming tens of thousands of parkgoers with commemorative pins to mark the milestone. However, many are worried about how long the park will be around.
The future of the park is still to be determined; whether the park
will close in a year or two or never, parkgoers were just excited to bring their families to a place where they’ve made so many memories over the years.
“The future is still not definite what we do know is the park’s land lease agreement expires in 2028,” Regional Manager of Public Relations for Six Flags Entertainment Marc Merino said.
Closing the park at the end of the lease is one option on the table, but it’s not a sure thing.
“There’s nothing definitive about the park’s future quite yet,” Marino said.
Until a final decision is made, all anyone can do is ride it out, one coaster or carousel at a time.
“I tell me kids this is it, we’re going to come here as much as we can because we’re sad to see it go,” Candy Cervantez said.
