9yearold boy paralyzed in Chester hitandrun dies one year after crash
Mar 28, 2026
A community in Chester came together to remember Ny’Leek Ellison, a nine-year-old boy who died on Thursday after spending the past year fighting to recover from the injuries he suffered from the tragic incident.
Ny’Leek was eight years old in Feb. 2025 when he was struck by a car while getti
ng off a SEPTA bus with his brother in the area of 9th and Tilgham streets.
The crash left Ny’Leek paralyzed, and complications from his injuries caused him to pass away.
Anita Carrington, Ny’Leek’s mother, said her son was her everything.
“My baby… I thought I had it. I thought I had it. I thought I was going to see my baby walk again,” Carrington said. “Before Ny’Leek I was a mom, but he taught me how to be a mother, and I want to thank him for that.”
Ny’Leek’s father, Micah Ellison, said his son changed his life as well.
“I’m lucky, I’m lucky to be his father,” Micah said. “And anybody who was in his life was lucky. That was the best nine years of my life. I don’t think it can get any better than that.”
The community that Ny’Leek inspired came together at the scene of the crash on Saturday night to remember his legacy. Many of them also said that Caleb Campbell, the man who struck Ny’Leek with his car, should be facing more severe charges.
Campbell plead guilty earlier this month to multiple charges, including aggravated assault. He was sentenced to a maximum of three years in prison.
“Police are reopening the case now that he has transitioned,” said Councilmember Fred Green, of Chester. “I believe we’re all on the same page. That the charges do need to be upgraded, and it’s my hope that that’s what will happen.”
NBC10 reached out to the District Attorney’s Office for comment, but they said that the investigation is ongoing and they can’t comment.
