A crowd gathered Saturday, March 28, just before noon along Northeast Center Street carrying signs criticizing the Trump administration as Salem’s third “No Kings” protest got underway. Salem is one of over 3,000 cities nationwide expected to participate in this third wave of No Kings prote sts. The local demonstration is organized by Salem Region Indivisible and is at the Capitol Mall at 900 Court St. from until  3 p.m.  Speeches were scheduled to begin at 12:45 p.m. from a stage at Summer and Center Streets. The movement, founded on the slogan, “America has no kings,” was created in response to what organizers describe as authoritarian overreach by President Donald Trump and his administration.  Salem Area Indivisible has continued to organize regular protests against the administration, both under the No Kings label and others focused on specific issues like people who died while in federal immigration custody.
