Maxey returns from pinky injury ahead of schedule for Sixers

Tyrese Maxey’s back for the Sixers a bit ahead of schedule.
The Sixers’ starting lineup for their Saturday night matchup with the Hornets included Maxey, who’d been sidelined with a right pinky finger injury.
Maxey suffered the injury in the final minute of the Sixers’ March 7 loss
to the Hawks. The Sixers said on March 10 that he’d be re-evaluated in approximately three weeks, a timeline that Maxey beat.
“When it happened, I was just like, ‘Oh, man.’ I knew something wasn’t right,” Maxey said after the Sixers’ practice Friday. “I get hit all the time and I just bounce back up. But the way it felt, the way my finger was bending, it just didn’t seem right. I knew something was wrong. I was really just trying to roll myself off the court so I didn’t get run over.
“I like to play. I like being out there every single night for my teammates, for this organization. It was a little sad. I definitely got some good rest, though. Now I feel pretty good.”
Maxey earned his first All-Star start this season. He entered Saturday averaging 29.0 points, 6.7 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.0 steals.
Johni Broome (right knee surgery recovery) was the only Sixer out Saturday. Joel Embiid and Paul George came back Wednesday for the Sixers’ win over the Bulls and remained in the team’s starting lineup.
And, as he’d personally announced Friday, Kelly Oubre Jr. returned in Charlotte from an eight-game absence with a left elbow sprain.
