CMPD officer on unpaid leave following charges of Assault on a Female and domestic violence

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officer is on unpaid leave, accused of Assault on a Female and domestic violence. CMPD says 25-year-old Officer Ryan Clement was charged on Thursday after an investigation into a domestic violence claim. The alleged victim is a 26-year-old woman
court documents say Clement recently, formerly dated.
The department says Clement was off-duty when the alleged incident happened.
Chief Estella Patterson says, “While the criminal charge of Officer Clement is deeply concerning, I want to reassure our community that we take this matter very seriously and are committed to handling it with transparency and fairness. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department expects every employee to uphold the highest standards of this profession. This incident does not reflect the service, dedication or integrity of the many men and women who serve our city with honor every day.”
Clement was hired by CMPD in 2024 and is assigned to the Metro Division. The department says he will remain on unpaid leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation.
