Camden man accused of beating woman to death with baseball bat, prosecutor says

A Camden man was arrested and accused of beating a woman to death with a baseball bat on Wednesday night, according to Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay and Camden County Police Chief Gabriel Rodriguez.
Officials said Enoch Rembert, 28, was charged with first-degree murder in the death o
f 51-year-old Lisa Mellet of Camden.
According to officials, on Wednesday, March 25, at approximately 11:29 p.m., first responders were dispatched to the area of 5th Street and Erie Street in Camden, New Jersey, in reference to a woman who was found unconscious in the roadway.
The woman, who was later identified as Mellet, was taken to Cooper University Hospital, where she died about an hour later, officials said.
Later on Thursday, March 26, the Gloucester-Camden-Salem County Medical Examiner determined Mellet died of blunt abdominal trauma and ruled her death as a homicide.
During the investigation, detectives found surveillance video footage that showed Rembert walking to the area of 5th Street and Erie Street and repeatedly striking Mellet with a baseball bat. Officials said after the assault, Mellet walked to the area of 5th Street and Bailey Street, where she collapsed.
According to the prosecutor’s office, detectives also learned Mellet and Rembert were “previously acquainted from the neighborhood.”
Rembert was arrested in Camden and taken to the Camden County Correctional Facility.
