Baseball season is finally here and to accommodate the throngs of fans expected to take in a day at the ballpark for the Philadelphia Phillies home opener at Citizens Bank Park, SEPTA is offering extra trains for more frequent services to help get fans home from the game. SEPTA has announced tha t, to accommodate fans, there will be extra services along the Broad Street Line, with regular trains running every six to eight minutes. After the match up, officials said, SEPTA will have extra trains waiting at NRG Station in South Philly to take riders home from the game, as well. SEPTA officials noted that the mass transit provider offers free transfers from the Market-Frankford Line and City Trolleys at 15th Street/City Hall. Officials said that, at Suburban Station, it’s just a short walk from Regional Rail trains, it also connects to bus routes that provide service throughout the city and region, and it’s easily accessible from the PATCO High Speed Line for riders from South Jersey. This weekend, SEPTA said, there will be special Sports Tripper trains running for both games. For Saturday’s game, which starts at 4:05 p.m., in addition to regular service to NRG Station there will be three Sports Tripper trains leaving Fern Rock Station every 10 minutes beginning at 2:40 p.m. headed to NRG Station. For Sunday’s 1:35 p.m. first pitch, three Sports Tripper trains will be available at noon; 12:10; and 12:30 p.m. available for pre-game travelers.
