Residents in one South Jersey community are very upset about the possibility of a data center being built in their neighborhood. The controversy stems from language in an ordinance for Monroe Township, Gloucester County. On Wednesday, March 25, township leaders heard concerns from residents a nd made a first step by approving a motion to change the ordinance so data centers cannot be built in their community. Council members say township attorneys will review new language in the ordinance to fall within legal boundaries in an attempt to keep data centers and the Hexa Builders redevelopment plan from moving forward. Even though residents are upset about a data center being built in Monroe Township, officials say Hexa Builders never submitted an application to build a data center. Rather, Hexa Builders submitted an application to build a warehouse on a rural plot of land along the Black Horse Pike. Neighbors said they don’t want that coming into town either.
