(CNN)– Tuesday, March 25, NASA outlined a plan to build a permanent base on the moon.
The agency says the goal is to strengthen U.S. leadership in space by establishing a sustained human presence.
The plan includes more frequent missions initially targeting landings every six months.
It w
ill roll out in phases starting with robotic missions then building infrastructure and later enabling long-term stays on the moon.
The first crewed moon missions since the 1970s are set to begin next year.
