(KRON) -- A woman died Saturday evening after her kayak capsized in Tomales Bay. The woman has been identified as 37-year-old Brigitte Manspeaker of Los Angeles, according to reports. Sonoma Valley deputies responded to reports of an overturned kayak and two people in the water in Tomales Bay Satur day evening. Officials said high winds cause three-foot swells on the bay. The Sonoma County Sheriff's Department rescue helicopter Henry-1 was able to find a man in the water. Deputies used a 100-foot longline to rescue the man, who was suffering from cold exposure. Social media video of the rescue shared by the Sonoma County Sheriff's Department shows one of the rescuers descending towards the victim clinging to an orange kayak with his dog. The man told deputies that his girlfriend, Manspeaker, had slipped out of her life jacket and drowned. Deputies said they found Manspeaker face down in the water, and brought her to shore using the longline. Officers took Manspeaker to a local hospital where she was later pronounced dead. Marin County Fire Department officials said the National Park Service was able to rescue the dog by watercraft. Officials said the dog was in stable condition and was picked up by a friend of the couple. ...read more read less
