Lawmakers and citizens gathered in Harrisburg on Monday to celebrate the passage of the CROWN ACT, which bans discrimination in schools and the workplace based on hairstyles. The bill, which was signed by Gov. Josh Shapiro on Nov. 25, 2025, has now taken effect in the Commonwealth. “When I signed the bipartisan CROWN Act into law, we made it clear: no matter where you’re from, what you look like, or what hairstyle you choose, we’ll protect your freedom to be who you are here in Pennsylvania,” Shapiro wrote on social media. Pennsylvania is among 28 states that have passed similar laws, and New Jersey and Delaware have done so as well.
