SEPTA riders who use the Ardmore Station have been waiting for the brand new platform to open for six years, and finally Monday is the day. “Now that it’s opening, it’s just absolutely amazing because everybody in the neighborhood has been like… it’s been a long time,” said John Lyon s. The platform closed in 2019 so that SEPTA could rebuild it and make it fully accessible for those who are living with disabilities. “It has ramps. It has an elevator for customers. And so, we’re very excited to have it open,” said Andrew Busch, a SEPTA spokesperson. According to Busch, the $60 million project also includes a new parking lot, a waiting area with restrooms and high-level platforms, which help get passengers on and off trains more efficiently. “It’s a much smoother entry and exit than customers have been used to,” Busch said. “So, we’re really happy to have this open. It’s been a long construction project, but it’s a huge improvement we’re delivering for our customers.” The project took much longer than anticipated due to several issues, but especially the pandemic and suppl chain disruptions. “Certainly there was no way to know in 2019 that those things were coming, but we did our best with that,” Busch said. While construction was going on, the station remained open, but passengers had to walk about two blocks out of the way to a temporary platform. “For me, I don’t commute into the city,” Lyons said. “But, like, just now I went to see the Philadelphia Orchestra and to just to have to go over there, figure out… I’m a little bit older.
