Community Link: Black family wellness INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Each week on Community Link, Carolene Mays takes a look at an organization or business that is making a positive impact on the community. This week, Mays was joined by The Links Incorporated, a non-profit organization that has be en committed to strengthening families and communities through service and education since 1946. They spoke about their upcoming Black Family Wellness Day. The Links focuses on five core programs: services to youth, the arts, national trends, international trends, and health and human services. A representative from Links said Black Family Wellness Day fits into the category of health and human services. “I think we are addressing what we feel like is a community need because, you know, a lot times the African American community, we don’t go get our health checks,” a Links member said in an interview with WISH-TV. “So, by having this Black Family Wellness Expo, you can get your blood pressure screenings, any type of disease screenings, dental screenings.” The added bonus? The event is completely free. There will also be food and gift card giveaways for those who take part in the screening. “I love it because it is more than just about health. It is truly about wellness overall. Mental, emotional, physical, all of it,” the Links representative said. The expo will take place Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 1301 North Goodlet Avenue. ...read more read less
