SAN JOSE, Calif. (KRON) -- A powerful celebration of women’s soccer took center stage in the South Bay at PayPal Park Saturday. San Jos e’s PayPal Park Stadium filled with fans for the women’s empowerment match, which honored the Bay Area CyberRays — the first-ever professional women’s soccer team in the Bay Area — marking the 25th anniversary of their 2001 championship season. Photo: KRON4 News. Soccer legend Brandi Chastain was joined by 18 former teammates, reuniting for the first time in more than two decades. Chastain said, “This stadium is for the fans,” and was thrilled to see so many people come out, especially girls like Ivy Waight and Eleena Fernandez. “They both play soccer.” Chastain said soccer is all about helping your teammate and hopes this game inspires the next generation, while recognizing what this moment means for women’s soccer. ...read more read less
