Record number run in 11th Circle City Donut Dash
Mar 21, 2026
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Teachers’ Treasures says a record number of people registered for the 2026 Circle City Donut Dash 5K on Saturday.
Now in its 11th year, the annual run raises money to help get school supplies to teachers and their students.
Teachers’ Treasures didn’t have an
exact amount of money raised available early Saturday. However, according to organizers, every dollar raised provides $15 worth of supplies.
Executive Director Margaret Sheehan says more than 1,400 people signed up for the race.
“It’s very exciting that the weather is unbelievably great,” Sheehan said. “It’s also amazing that this neighborhood here on the near east side is so accommodating to this race.”
The race course went through the Factory Arts District and the Windsor Park neighborhood on the near east side. Teachers Treasures has called the neighborhood home since 2007.
Saturday’s race included a regular 5K race and a Donut Challenge in which participants ran the normal race, but stopped halfway to eat a dozen donut holes before finishing the second half.
Board President Kim Borges also walked in Saturday’s race.
“It’s incredible for us because we have so many longtime supporters who come out and support our mission,” Borges said. “This is a fun and a great way to do it. We just have a lot of fun.”
Founded in 2000, it now has three “free-tail” locations around Marion County for teachers to shop for things like backpacks, writing utensils or other supplies at no cost. According to the group, it helps about 6,000 teachers annually.
Teachers’ Treasures estimates that teachers spend on average between $800 and $1,200 of their own money on supplies every year.
