SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- After going dark for nearly three years, San Francisco's iconic Bay Bridge lights returned Friday night. The expanded light installation artwork, known officially as "The Bay Lights," returned at 7:40 p.m. Alysa Liu spotted at Loard’s in Alameda In a lead up to the lighting , Ben Davis, founder of illuminate, the arts nonprofit behind the lights, and artist Leo Villareal shared remarks outside Waterbar on the Embarcadero. That will be followed by a collective countdown to the relighting of the lights, which have been expanded to both sides of the bridge. Bringing the lights back in an expanded fashion was an $11-million project that relied on donations from major philanthropists and over 1,300 donations from individual contributors.
