Downtown Indianapolis prepares for NCAA men’s basketball Final Four
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — No one needs a ticket to be a part of the Final Four excitement in Indianapolis. The city is rolling out a full lineup for visitors and locals alike. Downtown Indianapolis is turning into a hub of activi
ty for Final Four week.
“Of course you don’t want to miss Final Four Friday where the teams will practice. It’s totally free, free parking, free admission. You can come on into Lucas Oil Stadium and see the Final four teams,” Patrick Talty, president of Indiana Sports Corp. said.
Even if you don’t have a seat inside the stadium, there’s still plenty of ways to be part of the action April 2-6. At the convention center, the Fan Fest will tip off April 3.
“There are so many free ancillary events for fans and youth to get involved in, so whether it’s coming into the city and walking around and seeing about 170 commissioned artists take over the streets, mural painting, and performing,” Morgan Snyder, vice president of communications at Visit Indy, said.
Talty says it’s been a year of preparations with multiple volunteers to put together the NCAA men’s basketball Final Four activities. The city is also hosting the Division II, III, and NIT Basketball championships.
“About 300 volunteers, civic leader who have been planning and working with our staff to put on this Final Four. Thinking of everything from trashcan wraps to how to people get from the airport do downtown, working with the state to clean the highways, how do we make sure the music fest is set and ready to go,” Talty said.
If you go downtown, you’ll see Final Four signs starting to going up. As Talty sees it, Indianapolis is the best place to host, and the goal was to make the experience as inclusive as possible.
“We work together better than any other city that I know of to achieve these big events. We can just work together and just get things done,” Talty said.
Talty says all Final Four signage will be up by March 30.
“It will really have an impact in downtown, and you will feel it, and the local businesses will benefit from it.”
