A 24-year-old is facing manslaughter and assault charges for a high speed crash on Long Island that killed two 19-year-old passengers. Frank Labidi was arraigned on two counts each of second-degree manslaughter and assault in connection to the Jan. 23 crash in Hicksville. Prosecutors said the 24- year-old from Farmingville was driving around 11:30 p.m. on Old Country Road near Sterling Place at 82 mph in a 40 mph zone.  “The car crossed into incoming traffic and the passenger side slammed into a tree before it finally came to rest,” said Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly. “The force of the crash sent the muffler flying into a building.” Lindsey Parke and Alexa Duryea were killed as a result of the crash. Their families and friends present at the arraignment.  “We are all suffering every day for the rest of our lives because we don’t have them anymore,” said Annette Parke, the mother of Lindsey. Labidi pleaded not guilty to the charges. “It’s not fair because we never get to hear their voice again or see their face again and he gets to walk in there and say not guilty and he knows what he did,” said Haley Parke, Lindsey’s sister. The DA’s office said the vehicle stability system had been manually disabled on the BMW. Had it been active, it could have prevented the driver from losing control. Donnelly said Labidi is a car racing enthusiast. “This was no mistake. It was a series of deliberate, reckless, and deadly actions,” said Donnelly. Parke was an EMT and volunteer firefighter and dreamed of owning her own bakery — a dream that will never be fully realized since her life was cut short. Her father still carries a part of her with him at all times. “Lindsay, she’s like my best friend. That’s my daughter. You know she taught me a lot of things at my age. I’m 52 years old,” said Edward Parke. “So I wear this every day and I speak to her every single day.” Labidi and his attorney both declined to comment. He walked out of court on bail and was surrounded by his family and friends. He is due back in court in late April and had his drivers license suspended. “Our families were given life sentences because we have to live without them for the rest of our lives and we just feel that this boy did this and he should be held accountable,” said Annette Parke. ...read more read less
