Costco to open first standalone gas station in California

(KTLA) -- Costco plans to open its first standalone gas station in Southern California this summer as drivers continue to search for cheaper fuel options amid high prices.
The new gas station, which will include 20 fueling dispensers, two pump stations each, for a total of 40 pumps, will replace th
e old Bed Bath Beyond. The gas station will be located at 25732 El Paseo in Mission Viejo.
City documents describe the project as Costco's largest and only independent fueling facility proposed in the area to date.

Unlike traditional Costco gas stations attached to warehouses, this location will not sell any additional goods or services. As with all Costco fuel sites, the pumps will be available only to members.
The facility is expected to operate daily from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Robert Schick, a spokesperson for the city, told USA Today that the company plans to open the Mission Viejo location in June.
Costco is also developing a standalone gas station in Hawai‘i, which is expected to be completed in 2027.

Gas prices are continuing to climb across California as global oil markets react to the ongoing war involving Iran.
The statewide average price for regular gasoline reached $5.61 as of Thursday morning, according to AAA.
