HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The Hanover County Sheriff's Office said it is working with Kings Dominion to ensure a safe environment for visitors after social media posts referenced a possible "teen takeover" at the park's opening day.
Authorities said they have increased law enforcement presence
in and around the park and surrounding areas "to ensure a safe environment for families, residents, and visitors."
"While we encourage everyone to come to Hanover County and enjoy all that our community has to offer, including a safe and fun day at Kings Dominion, we want to be clear: disorderly conduct, fighting, trespassing, or any criminal behavior will not be tolerated," authorities wrote in a press release.
Kings Dominion has updated its chaperone policy -- all guests 17 and younger must be accompanied by a chaperone who is at least 21 years old.
The chaperone may accompany no more than five guests per day, and they must stay together while in the park, per Six Flags' Code of Conduct. From opening day through spring break, this policy will be in effect from opening to closing.
A spokesperson with Kings Dominion shared the following statement with 8News:
Safety is a top priority and we have zero tolerance for any type of disruptive behavior. We actively work with local law enforcement agencies, like Hanover County Sheriff’s Office on layered security and emergency response plans.
Sydney Snow, Kings Dominion spokesperson
This follows recent incidents across the U.S. involving similar events, including one that happened at Short Pump Town Center the evening of Saturday, March 14.
