Marcus’ 4 a.m. Wednesday forecast Another quick hit of light snow early this morning, but hang in there—much warmer temperatures are on the way. Light snow early; slick spots possible. Some areas of light snow are moving through the state this morning. One wave moving into western Indi ana is having a tough time actually reaching the ground because of very dry air overhead. A second wave in northwestern Indiana will start to slide in and provide us with better chances for falling snow. Accumulations will be very light—generally less than 1 inch—however, even a light coating could lead to some slick spots heading into the Wednesday morning commute. Warmer temperatures move in this afternoon. Our weather will improve quickly once the morning system moves out. Clouds will begin to break up, leaving us with partly cloudy skies and rebounding temperatures. Highs should make a run at the upper 40s and potentially even the lower 50s, melting any snowfall very rapidly this afternoon. Rain chances return Thursday. Another weak system will push in early Thursday morning and could provide us a chance for some light and brief rain showers across the area. Rain will be spotty at best, so many areas will remain relatively quiet and dry. Spring-like warmth over the extended period A building ridge of high pressure will bring a surge of warm air into the state starting Thursday. Look for high temperatures to hit the upper 50s and lower 60s by Thursday afternoon. We will take a tremendous jump in temperature starting Friday, with highs pushing into the upper 60s and lower 70s. Many areas should hit the lower 70s for Saturday, and Sunday will also be very warm with highs in the upper 60s and lower 70s. In terms of precipitation chances during this warming period, only a few brief light showers are possible on Sunday. Most of the extended forecast looks to be pretty dry. Cooler air early next week Some signals suggest we will cool down a bit as we head into early next week. While we won’t be as cold as what we are experiencing early this week, temperatures will fall back to near-normal levels for this time of year. Highs hit the low 50s for Monday and jump back to the mid-50s by Tuesday of next week. All that said, the long-term pattern still has us above average over the next 6 to 10 days as well as the next 8 to 14 days. ...read more read less
