Mayor urges caution on slick roads following quick freeze
Mar 17, 2026
Mayor Linda Gorton today urged residents to use caution while on the roads.
“Early morning quick freezing, around 4:30 – 5:30 a.m., and several intense snow squalls created dangerous, icy road conditions in our city this morning, and in several surrounding counties,” Gorton said.
“Our Emer
gency Management Division has been in contact with UK, the state and the National Weather Service, confirming what was described as several violent outbursts of snow this morning,” Gorton said. The National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory at 5:30 a.m.
Yesterday and last night, Streets and Roads crews pre-treated hills, bridges and overpasses, their normal pattern. They also helped the state pre-treat roads it is responsible for in Fayette County, including New Circle.
