Four people arrested for ATM theft in Crawfordsville CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. (WISH) — Four people from Texas and Louisiana were apprehended Sunday after an attempted ATM theft led to a vehicle pursuit and a crash near Interstate 74, said a news release issued Monday from the mayor’s office. Authorities declined to identified one of the four, a juvenile. The other four who were arrested are Jacoby K. Arceneaux, 23; Ernest N. Brown, 21; and Kevon M. Sloan, 22, according to an email to News 8 from Sarah Sommer, director of communications for the mayor’s office. Brown and Arceneaux had hearings set for Tuesday morning in Montgomery Superior Court 1, but no charges were listed, online records showed Monday night. Sloan was not listed in online court records. The release nor online court records listed what communities in Texas and Louisiana that the three men were from. The release said police think the four people about 4:35 p.m. Sunday used a stolen pickup to rip an ATM from its base in the drive-thru at The Fountain Trust Co. bank, 1700 E Main St., in Crawfordsville. Main Street is also known as U.S. 136, and the bank is in a commercial and residential area southeast of the highway’s intersection with East Wabash Avenue and North Engelwood Drive. The ATM was dragged into a parking lot of a neighboring business before the four people fled in a separate vehicle as police arrived. A pursuit followed, ending when the suspects crashed their vehicle near Interstate 74. All four people then tried to escape on foot. A Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office drone and a Crawfordsville Police Department police dog tracked and found the suspects. They were taken to the Franciscan Health Crawfordsville Emergency Department for evaluation due to exhaustion and the vehicle crash. Later, the three men were taken to the Montgomery County Jail. The release said preliminary charges for the three men include low-level counts of theft, criminal mischief, auto theft, and organized theft. A detention order was issued for the juvenile. While the four people made several attempts to force the machine open with the vehicle, they were unsuccessful in gaining access to the money, the release said. The FBI has been notified of the crime, the release said, and federal charges could be considered. Detective Geoff Payne was leading the investigation. Anyone with information was asked to contact Payne at 765-362-3762, Extension 155, or at [email protected].
