The allegedly planned “beach takeovers” had police on edge in the East Bay Sunday, leading to an increase in patrols. Alameda PD said in its notice on Facebook that the parties have led to unintended but “dangerous consequences” in the past. A parks district officer told NBC Bay Area t he danger comes when alcohol is involved, large groups of young people get too rowdy and start encroaching on families and other people who aren’t involved in their games. Police and park rangers were driving up and down the Crown Beach boardwalk and along Shoreline Drive, checking for party permits and, in some cases, warning beachgoers to watch out for the beach takeover, reportedly supposed to start Sunday afternoon. This was supposed to be the first of two beach takeovers on Crown Beach; according to East Bay Parks and Alameda police, another one could be planned for Tuesday afternoon on St. Patrick’s Day, meaning they will be out in full force again that day, to try to keep the peace on Crown Beach and break up any planned takeovers before they get too big to handle.
