A 26-year-old man was shot and killed in North Philadelphia near Temple University’s campus on Saturday evening, police said. Officers arrived at the area of North 8th and West Berks Street at around 6:15 p.m. on Saturday, police said. There, they found a man with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:29 p.m., police said. According to Philadelphia Police Inspector DF Pace, the man arrived at the scene to visit family when he was ambushed by two men in a black Honda opened fire. The unidentified victim attempted to run, according to Pace, but the gunmen chased him down and killed him. The two suspects then fled the scene in the Honda, which was found torched about a 10-minute drive away on Allegheny Avenue. According to Pace, a rifle believed to have been used in the shooting was found in the car. Police are also looking for a second weapon, a handgun, that they believe was used during the shooting, Pace said. At the scene of the shooting, police found at least 15 spent shell casings, Pace said. No motives or arrests have been announced at this, but the shooting remains under investigation, police said.
