I am the parent of two students at Trailside Elementary and have been made aware that the current principal, Ms. Tricia Wilbourne, will not have her contract renewed for the coming year. While I understand Principal Wilbourne was hired on a contract basis, I am concerned that the decision was no t made in the best interest of the students or the staff. In the short amount time that she has served as principal, Ms. Wilbourne has made such a positive impact on the entire school community. I have heard nothing but tremendous positive feedback from parents and others in the community who are very sad — some even noted devastated — to hear this news. For someone in this type of public position, a closed-door policy when making these decisions definitely needs to be looked at closely and changed.  Continuity in leadership is especially important for a school like Trailside — a school that has experienced a high amount of principal turnover in recent years. Stability benefits both staff and students, and many families value consistency in the school’s direction. What is most important to me is my children’s education and the environment they are learning in. Principal Wilbourne maintained a school culture that was helpful, kind, nurturing, and caring of both her students and staff.  It is a shame that someone like Ms. Wilbourne will no longer contribute to that direction. It is an ever bigger shame that the school community had no say in that decision. Vanessa Isaacson Park City The post Caring principal appeared first on Park Record. ...read more read less
