LPD To Increase Impaired Driving Enforcement for St. Patrick’s Day

Lincoln Police Cruiser (Jeff Motz/KFOR News)LINCOLN–(KFOR Mar. 14)–As St. Patrick’s Day celebrations approach, the Lincoln Police Department (LPD) is reminding the community that “luck” should not be your plan for getting home safely.
Through March 21, 2026, LPD will conduct a high-visibil
ity enforcement campaign specifically targeting impaired drivers. During this time, LPD will deploy additional officers on overtime to patrol Lincoln’s streets and proactively identify drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs. This initiative is made possible through a grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office.
In 2025, Nebraska saw a concerted effort to reduce alcohol-related fatalities. LPD’s recent campaigns have shown that increased visibility works; however, alcohol remains a factor in a significant percentage of serious injury crashes in Lancaster County. During this campaign, officers will also be looking for secondary violations such as speeding and seatbelt non-compliance.
