INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Butler head coach Thad Matta will return to coach the Bulldogs in the 2026-27 season. This will be Matta’s fifth season in his second stint with Butler. The Bulldogs went 16-16 this season, losing in the first round of the Big East Tournament to Providence. In the last four seasons, Matta is 63-69 with Butler, with a 28-52 record in Big East action. The lone winning record of the four seasons was in the 2023-24 season, when Butler went 18-15. Matta’s first season as a head coach was with Butler back in the 2000-01 season, where he guided the Bulldogs to a 24-8 record and a 10-seed in the NCAA Tournament.
