49ers DL Bryce Huff, 27, announces retirement to focus on his tech company
Mar 12, 2026
(KRON) -- San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Bryce Huff has announced his retirement after six years in the NFL. In an Instagram video posted Thursday, the 27-year-old explained his decision to walk away from football.
"I'm retiring from football," Huff said at the beginning of the three-minute
video, which has since received 44,000 views on his Instagram account.
Huff has been playing football since he was 4 years old and believes now is the time for change.
"But at 27 years old, I know I am capable of giving the world more than football," he said.
Huff is setting aside the shoulder pads to work in tech and focus on that field. He is the co-founder of Naberstone, which describes itself as a nanotechnology and "advance material manufacturer."
Naberstone's mission, according to its website, reads as follows.
"We are dedicated to building a sustainable, efficient international infrastructure for the supply of advanced nanomaterials. By forging strong partnerships and optimizing logistics, Naberstone ensures that industries across the globe have access to the highest-quality nanotechnology, whenever and wherever it’s needed."
According to Huff, the company focuses on making lithium-ion batteries more sustainable since they carry a fire risk.
The 49ers posted on social media about Huff's departure from the team.
"San Francisco 49ers DL Bryce Huff informed the team he plans to retire from the National Football League," the team wrote in a social media post. "We would like to thank Bryce for his contributions throughout the 2025 season and we wish him the best."

During Super Bowl week in San Francisco, Huff was networking with top tech executives in the region, widely considered to be the global hub for technology.
Huff was acquired by the 49ers in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles last offseason.
Huff entered the league as an undrafted free agent with the New York Jets in 2020.
The 49ers appear to have filled some void left in the defense due to Huff's retirement. The team brought back linebacker Dre Greenlaw to a reported one-year, $7.5 million deal.
