A new public art installation, Cloud Embrace, has been dedicated in Oklahoma City’s Bricktown Entertainment District. The sculpture sits in the reimagined United Way Plaza at Reno Avenue and Walnut Avenue, next to the Bricktown Canal and Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. The pedestrian plaza is op erated by the city’s Parks and Recreation Department. Commissioned by Visit Oklahoma City and Inasmuch Foundation, the piece was designed by Creative Machines, a design and fabrication studio led by artist Joseph O’Connell. The steel sculpture stands about 24 feet tall, 40 feet wide and 9 feet deep. Its perforated panels cast multicolored shadows during the day and are illuminated by color-changing LED lights at night. City leaders say the installation is intended to enhance the public plaza and encourage visitors to explore Bricktown. The project was funded through the federal American Rescue Plan Act and a grant from Inasmuch Foundation.
