Easy as Pi: A Local Guide to the Best Slices in the Gateway
Mar 11, 2026
Pi Day is this Saturday, March 14. While most people think of it as a math holiday, we see it as the perfect excuse to support our local “mom and pop” bakeries. Skip the freezer aisle and the big chains this year. Instead, take a short drive to one of these neighborhood favorites right here in t
he Gateway.

Traditional Sweet Slices
Ginny Bites (Anoka): This is the spot for southern hospitality in Minnesota. Their Buttermilk and Sour Cream Raisin pies offer a unique flavor profile you won’t find at a standard grocery store.
Hans’ Bakery (Anoka): A true community landmark. They’ve been part of local history for decades and their pies are just as iconic as their famous Beehive.
Artisanal Unique Treats
Krown Bakery Eatery (Anoka): If you want a sophisticated twist, Krown offers beautiful seasonal tarts and Nordic-inspired fruit desserts that look like art on a plate.
Allison’s Petite Pastries (Ramsey): This modern shop is known for incredible attention to detail. Look for their gourmet tarts and rotating seasonal treats if you want a high-end Pi Day experience.
Truffles Tortes (Anoka): While they are famous for their decadent tortes, they always have a rotating selection of seasonal desserts that fit the holiday spirit perfectly.
Fun Twists on the “Pie” Theme
Kingdom Baking (Blaine): Who says Pi Day has to be sweet? Kingdom Baking makes fantastic house-made quiches. It’s essentially a savory breakfast pie and a great way to celebrate 3.14 early in the morning.
No matter which community you call home, there is a local baker ready to make your Saturday a little sweeter. Get out there and find your new favorite slice!
