Caucus opportunities
Mar 11, 2026
At age 67, I am one of the newest members of the Summit County Democratic Party, so I admit that I feel a bit awkward writing, but I feel strongly that these two items must happen:
1) For Democrats to become active in the Summit County Democratic Party. Please plan to attend the March 17 Precinc
t Caucus where you will meet 2026 Dem candidates and your Dem neighbors; elect your precinct delegates; and submit your request to be a state delegate. Start now to reach out to your groups and individuals who may be interested in joining us. This flyer explains reasons to switch party status. Feel free to share it widely! Feb19GoDemocraticPDF.pdf
2) For those who are not (yet) Democrats to join the Summit County Dems. If you are curious about joining, please read the flyer. You are also welcome to attend the March 17 Precinct Caucuses. We are an “open caucus.” We can answer questions you may have about the Summit County Dems and help you to register or change your party affiliation that evening.
We can explore some reasons to join:
The greater the number of Dems, the more power in the Utah Legislature.
Summit County Dems will receive greater resources based on higher Dem registration.
No Summit County resident represents us in the Utah Legislature because the GOP supermajority manipulated our districts.
GOP/MAGA values are no longer your values.
Being a “pretend” Republican isn’t making the government less extreme.
Attend the March 17 Summit County Democratic Caucuses and bring a new recruit!
South Summit precincts: Kamas Library Community Room at 6 p.m.
North Summit precincts: North Summit Middle School at 6 p.m.
Park City and environs will meet at the Park City High School Cafeteria, including Welcome New Dems Party — everyone’s invited at 5:30 p.m. Volunteers will answer questions and help register new voters and voters changing parties. Precinct caucuses, elections and speakers start at 6 p.m.
Over the years, I have worked or interned for a state rep., a U.S. senator, the RNCC legal counsel, U.S. attorneys, a deputy attorney general, and I have helped friends campaign — all GOP. My party left me quite a while ago, but it was difficult for me to leave it. Maybe you feel the same way?
Today’s GOP has become a cult of MAGA and no longer resembles the GOP I once knew. Today’s Republicans submit to the cult even when their own beliefs differ from the cult.
At this point in time, there is no other responsible choice but to join the Dems’ big tent and help us return to leaders and governments that are respected, ethical, competent, stable, compassionate and law-abiding.
Join us! It’s not only uplifting, it’s absolutely necessary!
