CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Five people are without a home after an outdoor fire spread to a Chesterfield County residence on Tuesday, causing "significant damage." At 4:20 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, crews with Chesterfield County Fire and EMS were called to the 2900 block of Providence Cree k Road for a reported structure fire. When they arrived, firefighters found flames showing through the roof of a home. The fire, which is believed to have started outside of the house and spread to it, caused "significant damage." Per officials, this damage was limited to the siding and gutters of that home. An 8News viewer shared a video showing what appears to be smoke pouring from the scene of this fire, which was visible from an area overpass. However, five people were displaced by the fire's damage, according to a spokesperson with Chesterfield County Fire and EMS. They are being assisted by the Red Cross. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation. "Because of the dry and windy conditions today, we encourage you to avoid all outdoor burning and please make sure you dispose of things like cigarette butts properly," officials said Tuesday.
