Henrico restaurant owner given a month to vacate, searching for new location

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — The owner of a long-time Henrico County restaurant is scrambling to find a new location after receiving notice to vacate his property by the end of March.
For nearly 14 years, Roberto Italian Restaurant has served families, local residents and travelers from its locat
ion across from Richmond International Airport.
Owner Roberto Gallina said he received a notice from his landlord on Feb. 28 ordering him to close and leave the property by March 28.
“It’s very painful. I feel like a member of my family died,” Gallina said.
Gallina said the sudden notice left little time to prepare for a move or make plans for the future.
“They didn’t give us the time to think about it or what we’ve got to do to relocate or anything. We’re just shocked,” he said.
The restaurant sits on the same property as the All Day Inn motel. An employee there said the motel also received a notice to vacate but was given 60 days to find a new location.
Calls to the motel manager and property manager asking why the businesses received different timelines were not returned.
Gallina said the restaurant has built strong ties with the community over the years, with many regular customers becoming like family.
“The community has been supporting us, so we’ve been supporting the community,” he said.
Long-time customer Patrick Snee said the possible closure would be a loss for the area.
“This is his legacy. He built this and he’s raising a family,” Snee said. “Without good restaurants, people won’t be drawn to this area. They’ll go elsewhere.”
Henrico Co. Deputy Manager Car Tretina said they are working with Gallina to help him find a new location for the restaurant before the deadline.
