March has a way of delivering serious weather whiplash to the tri-state, and this week is no exception.  We’re headed from spring to winter in the blink of an eye, so enjoy these 70-degree afternoons while they last. Central Park broke it’s high temperature record for the day, hitting 80 deg rees, topping the previous record high from 2016. There were also records tied or broken at LaGaurdia Airport, Newark Airport and Pougkeepsie. After Tuesday, temperatures begin to retreat.  Wednesday remains warm, just not quite as warm as Monday and Tuesday for most. Highs in the city will make it to the mid- or upper 60s, which is still quite warm for this time of year. Clouds will thicken on Wednesday and we could even catch a few late-day showers ahead of an approaching cold front. The real shock to our system will come on Thursday, when the cold front sweeps through the region and sends us spiraling back to winter.  Temperatures will start in the 50s and 60s Thursday morning, but quickly drop into the 40s by afternoon.  On top of the temperature tumble, winds will gust up to 30 mph, and showers will move through the area, making Tuesday’s utopia a distant memory. By the end of the day, some of those light showers could mix with snow, as temperatures aloft drop below freezing. Surface temperatures will be above freezing, so any snow that does fall will melt on contact with the ground, so don’t worry about any accumulation. The coldest day of the week will be Friday, with morning low temperatures near freezing and high temperatures only in the low to mid-40s.  Fortunately, we’ll bounce back to slightly warmer-than-normal temperatures as we head into the weekend. ...read more read less
