Here’s a roundup of happenings for Wednesday, March 11 to Tuesday, March 17.  *Starred events are free to attend, a lthough they may include ticketed components or a suggested donation. Early Black Women of the Willamette Valley *Thursday, March 12: Oregon Black Pioneers will have an educational talk about the Black pioneer women of the Willamette Valley. Held at the Salem Public Library, the class will run from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. It is free to attend and seating is first come, first serve. The library is at 585 Liberty St. S.E.  Franken-stuffy workshop *Friday, March 13: The Salem Public library is having a “Franken-stuffies” class for teens for the no-school day. Participants will take parts of small stuffed animals and hand sew them together to make a new, Frankenstein-style stuffed creature. Middle and high school-aged youth are invited. The class is free to attend, and all materials are free from the library. It will be held in the Teen Scene room in the library at 585 Liberty St. S.E.  Céilí of the Valley dance Friday, March 13: The Céilí of the Valley Society will have a special dance for St. Patrick’s Day with live music and a themed raffle. No partner or dance experience is required. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for students, $8 for members or $30 for families. A dance lesson is included in the admission. Doors open at 7 p.m., with the lesson starting at 7:15 p.m. and the dance beginning at 8 p.m. Children 7 and older are welcome, but must be able to follow instruction. It is at VFW Hall at 630 Hood St. N.E. Salem Capitals game Friday, March 13: Salem’s own basketball team, the Salem Capitals, will take on the Seattle Superhawks in the second home game of the season. Tickets start at $6, and can be bought online. The game will run from 7:30 – 10:30 p.m. It will be at the Salem Armory Auditorium at 2310 17th St. N.E. St. Patrick’s Day walkabout *Saturday, March 14: The Willamette Valley Pipes and Drums will lead a walkabout through Riverfront Park and downtown Salem in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day. The walk, hosted by the Céilí of the Valley Society, begins at noon. Attendees are asked to wear green. The walkabout is free and all are invited. It happens rain or shine.
