Barnes Noble plans to open a store in late 2026 or early 2027 as part of Lutherville Station, a transit-oriented development proposed off Ridgely Road. The national bookstore chain has signed a lease for 17,807 square feet in the project. “We are thrilled to welcome Barnes Noble to Lu therville Station,” said Mark Renbaum, a principal of Lutherville Station LLC, the owner of the site, in a statement. “This lease underscores the strength of the site’s strategic assets with outstanding demographics, exceptional visibility, a vibrant surrounding community, and direct access to transit. Barnes Noble is exactly the kind of experiential retailer that helps create a sense of place and community that will further position Lutherville Station as a regional destination.” The Barnes Noble location will include a BN Café, where customers can sit, order food and beverages, and read the many literary selections the bookstore sells. “We are thrilled to bring Barnes Noble to Lutherville Station and to become part of this exciting new chapter for the community,” said Janine Flanigan, Vice President of Store Planning and Design for Barnes Noble, in a statement. “Bookstores are natural gathering places, and this location, with its strong neighborhood presence, is a wonderful home for our bookstore and café. We look forward to welcoming readers and families to discover their next great read and to enjoy the books, toys, games, gifts, and more they’ve come to expect from Barnes Noble.” Lutherville Station’s developer hopes to transform the nearly vacant shopping center into a mixed-use site with residential units, retail and office spaces, office space, a dog park, an event lawn, and more. Located next to a light rail stop, the site is being planned with transit in mind, allowing residents and visitors to travel to and from the development with ease via public transit. “The proposed transit-oriented development at Lutherville Station is designed as a vibrant, walkable ‘townsquare’ adjacent to transit, bringing together residential apartments, retail, and public areas next door to Yorkridge Shopping Center,” according to a news release. But the development has also drawn opposition from some community members concerned about the project’s density. ...read more read less
