North Texas gas prices jump as war in Iran leads to oil supply concerns
Mar 09, 2026
The cost to fill up is rising across North Texas.
As the workweek began on Monday, drivers saw prices above $3 per gallon at many stations. In the Dallas-Fort Worth area, the average price for regular unleaded was $3.19 per gallon on Monday, up from $2.62 one week earlier, according to AAA Texas.
Lateatra Wayne of Mansfield commutes to Fort Worth and said she has already noticed the increase.
“Prices are becoming ridiculously high,” Wayne said. “I’m rolling with it for right now, but there’s definitely a concern there that it may increase.”
The latest spike at the pump is tied to rising crude oil prices and global uncertainty related to war in Iran. Crude oil recently rose to $118 a barrel before ending just below $100 a barrel, among the highest prices since the pandemic.
Even with the recent increase, prices remain well below the North Texas record of $4.84 per gallon set in June 2022, three months after Russia invaded Ukraine.
Daniel Armbruster with AAA Texas said prices are not yet close to a level that would cause drivers to cancel travel plans.
“At least here in the short term, we’re likely going to see prices higher than what we saw a year ago,” Armbruster said.
He said drivers can make small adjustments to help stretch a tank of gas.
“Just simple things like driving smoothly, keeping your vehicle well-maintained, planning your trips out,” Armbruster said.
