UNDATED-AP- The Minneapolis City Council has voted to extend its eviction timeline as leaders scramble to keep immigrant families housed after Operation Metro Surge. The council voted 7-5 to give renters 60 days, not 30, to catch up on rent before the eviction process starts. Tenant advocates say fa milies need time to earn money after being afraid to go to work during the ICE surge. Some landlords and nonprofits warn the extra time can mean deeper debt and more evictions. Minneapolis and St. Paul have also added to their emergency rent funds, but leaders say it’s not enough.
