Clouds Early, Sunshine Returns Sunday Afternoon Sunday started off on a gray note across central and eastern Kentucky following the round of showers and storms that moved through the region Saturday. Those storms pushed out of the area late last night, but lingering cloud cover stuck around throu gh much of the morning. A few areas even saw patchy drizzle early in the day as the last of the cold front slid through the region. Behind that front, cooler and drier air filtered into Kentucky. By the afternoon, skies gradually cleared from northwest to southeast, allowing sunshine to return across the region. Even with the sunshine, temperatures stayed a bit cooler compared to Saturday, with afternoon highs reaching the upper 50s to low 60s across much of central and eastern Kentucky. Quiet and Cool Conditions Tonight Skies will remain mostly clear overnight as high pressure settles into the Ohio Valley. With light winds and clear skies, temperatures will cool down efficiently. Overnight lows are expected to fall into the low 40s for most communities, though a few of the colder valley locations could briefly dip into the upper 30s. Overall, it will be a calm and quiet night across the region. A Warm and Sunny Monday The warming trend quickly returns as we kick off the new workweek. Southerly winds will increase slightly Monday, allowing warmer air to move back into Kentucky. With plenty of sunshine expected, temperatures will rise into the low to mid 70s Monday afternoon, making it feel much more like spring once again. Conditions will remain dry through most of the day, making Monday one of the nicest days of the upcoming week. Rain Returns Tuesday Ahead of a Strong Midweek System Clouds will begin increasing Monday night as the next weather system develops across the Plains and begins moving toward the Ohio Valley. By Tuesday, scattered showers could begin developing across the region as moisture increases and warmer, more humid air moves in. Temperatures will remain very mild, with highs pushing into the mid to upper 70s. The main weather system arrives Wednesday into Wednesday night, when a strong cold front is expected to move through the region. Strong Storms Possible Wednesday Forecast models show a potent storm system developing across the Midwest and Ohio Valley by midweek. As this system moves closer to Kentucky, it will bring a surge of deep moisture and strong atmospheric dynamics. This setup could support showers and thunderstorms Wednesday and Wednesday night, and forecasters say strong to severe storms and heavy rainfall are possible as the cold front moves through the region. While the exact details will become clearer over the next few days, this will be a system worth watching closely. Cooler Air Arrives Late Week Once the midweek storm system moves out, much cooler air will move back into the region. High temperatures Thursday may only reach the mid 40s to low 50s, a sharp drop compared to the warm weather earlier in the week.
